A Sustainable Resort/ Guest House

The guest house in Umranso, Dima Hasao is designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings, offering suite rooms, executive rooms, and separate dormitories for boys and girls. Overlooking a serene waterbody, the L-shaped structure embraces contemporary minimalism while incorporating vernacular elements, such as a pitched roof suited for Assam’s tropical monsoon climate. Expansive glass panels in the reception and conference areas maximize natural light, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. A central courtyard features a circular swimming pool, seamlessly integrating with an open-air theatre (OAT) and a landscaped garden. The thoughtful use of brick, glass, and wood ensures a balance between modern aesthetics and regional authenticity, making this guest house a tranquil yet luxurious retreat. The architectural approach focuses on harmonizing with the landscape while addressing the region’s climatic challenges. Given Assam’s tropical monsoon rainforest climate, characterized by high humidity and heavy rainfall, the design incorporates a pitched roof, not only for functional resilience but also as a tribute to the vernacular architectural style of Assam. Large glass panels in the conference room and reception area ensure ample natural light, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.
